The Aston Martin Voltage is what I produced for my third year major project. The brief of this project was to bring Aston Martin even further into the new age than they were before. At the time of the project Aston Martin had the Vantage, Rapide, DB9 and Vanquish in their range, all of which were based around similar segments, and all had very similar conventional platforms. My aim with the Voltage was to break the trend and in doing so create a fresh design language and implement some new and innovative technologies to the brand.

 

Once I had started the project, and since the completion of the project, Aston Martin has had a flourish of new, conceptual and radical cars, including the DBX, DB11, Vulcan and RB-001. So perhaps my brief and project wasn't too far from the truth?

Even so, I don't wish to sound as though I am insulting Aston Martin. I am an enormous fan of Aston Martin; this is the main reason I chose to use them for my major project in the first place. It was also the DB9 that inspired to become a car enthusiast, and thus a car designer. So although my project appeared on the surface to be a way of improving Aston Martin, it was ultimately my way of paying homage to them.
